About the images and the process

Garden Images go beyond the expected. When we think of garden images we think of trees, flowers and garden scenes. These traditional images communicate without words of explanation. I would like to stretch your concept of the garden image.

When you travel, you see just how effectively cultures use even the smallest spaces or the smallest elements to create their personal Garden Image.

The process used to create these images began with an SX-70 Polaroid instant print using Time Zero film. After the film is ejected from the camera stylus was used to push the color emulsion pack to manipulate the image into the vision that I see of the subject.

The manipulation gives the print an impressionistic feeling. The manipulated Polaroid image is then digitized so it may be enlarged and then printed. The images are individually printed onto archival cotton rag papers using archival pigmented inks.

Artist's Statement

Art comes from a passion deep within our soul. Our art comes from a driving need to express ourselves. Our art is what we choose it to be. The passion that drives us to create art enables everyone to be an artist.

Art is an expression of your soul's creativity. We are all artists. We are all creative. A person's ability to freely express themselves in their art is given to us at birth. Technique can be learned but expression is innate.

Everyone expresses his or her art differently. What is more expressive - a piece of physical art, or a musical score, or the raising of a child, or the laying of bricks to build a building? Art truly is “in the eye of the beholder”.

The final image printed on paper is how I choose to express myself. If my expressions are enjoyed and appreciated by other people, then that is simply a bonus. The need to see, interpret and express is my creative release. The final image is the record of that release.
